Really cool find to have that old building in a vast open field, reminds me of so many of the decaying farm homes I've seen driving through Iowa.

Jerry Abbott replied:

Thank you for the comment William!

I am very appreciative of the capture here. There is something haunting about old school houses as they do represent so much history. Nice focus and composition.

Jerry Abbott replied:

Thank you very much Jeff!

Artist's Description

Govan Schoolhouse built in 1906 in what was at one time a thriving farm community in eastern Lincoln County near the towns of Wilbur and Almira. Grain elevators in background, the schoolhouse and a couple of houses are all that’s remaining.

“Govan is an unincorporated community in Lincoln County, in US state of Washington. Govan was founded as a ranching community which was slowly abandoned as farming in the area decreased. Today an abandoned school house and post office along with a few houses (both abandoned and occupied) are all that remain. It is considered a ghost town.”

About Jerry Abbott

Jerry Abbott

I consider myself to be somewhat of a generalist as a photographer. In fact, Walkabout, probably best describes my style as I wonder around the Pacific Northwest looking for ordinary but interesting everyday objects, scenes, and places of interest. I am currently located in the beautiful community of Poulsbo, located on the Kitsap Peninsula of Washington State. The area is bordered by the Olympic Peninsula and Mountains on one side and the Puget Sound and Seattle on the other side. This location provides an abundance of photographic opportunity. As a result, this, along with Eastern Washington, where I grew up, is where most of my Walkabout photography time is spent. The two quotes below summarize my feelings about photography: ...
