Artist's Description
Adventuress is a 133-foot (41 m) gaff-rigged schooner launched in 1913 in East Boothbay, Maine. She has since been restored, and is listed as a National Historic Landmark. She is one of two surviving San Francisco bar pilot schooners. Adventuress is currently operated by Sound Experience, a non-profit organization based in Port Townsend, Washington.

Launched in 1913 in East Boothbay, Maine, Adventuress was designed for luxury and adventure by Bowdoin B. Crowninshield. The yacht was built for John Borden II, a wealthy businessman from Chicago, for an Arctic expedition to secure a Bowhead Whale specimen for the American Museum of Natural History. On board was Roy Chapman Andrews, the museum’s naturalist, who would later discover fossilized dinosaur eggs in Mongolia and serve as the inspiration for Hollywood’s Indiana Jones character. I consider myself to be somewhat of a generalist as a photographer. In fact, Walkabout, probably best describes my style as I wonder around the Pacific Northwest looking for ordinary but interesting everyday objects, scenes, and places of interest. I am currently located in the beautiful community of Poulsbo, located on the Kitsap Peninsula of Washington State. The area is bordered by the Olympic Peninsula and Mountains on one side and the Puget Sound and Seattle on the other side. This location provides an abundance of photographic opportunity.
